It feels like winter has passed us by far too quickly, and once again we find ourselves eagerly welcoming the season we wait for all year—after preparing diligently through the harsh winter months. There is nothing more joyful than seeing a fully packed Slough Cricket Club, with seniors, youth, and supporters all coming together to celebrate the game we love.
Here’s a quick snapshot of what the club has been up to over the last eight months:

Youth Development & Training

We successfully ran our post season cricket camp from October to December, attended by over 100 children over a 10 week period. It was fantastic to see youngsters continuing to develop their skills immediately after the season, reinforcing our commitment to continuous development for our youth members.
Our winter training programme attracted a large number of new members across both youth and senior sections. Over 300 members attended winter training, making it a huge success. This would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our youth coordinators, Asif and Sathya, along with all coaches and parent volunteers who supported sessions throughout the winter.
I would like to personally thank Wilson Gumbs for his valuable time and commitment in coaching our U9s on Sundays.

Representative Honours

It is wonderful to see so many of our youth members—boys and girls—being selected across various county teams and working hard throughout the winter to make their mark this summer.
Our girls continue to shine on bigger stages. Shristi Patil, one of our star cricketers, has been selected for the England U19 tour of Australia. This is an immensely proud moment for the entire club, seeing her development over the past nine years—from an All Stars participant to an England U19 player. This is surely just the beginning, and we wish her continued success.
Naaz was also part of the Delhi Capitals squad, gaining invaluable experience training at the highest level. She is not far from earning England honours, and we wish her every success.

Senior Cricket Expansion

We have added an additional Saturday senior side, Academy 2, playing in the TVCL, reaffirming our commitment to providing more opportunities for our youth members to play senior cricket.
This was made possible thanks to the determination of Sunil, who secured a suitable ground for both Academy teams. We are delighted to have finalised Slough and Eton School Ground as our base for 2026. Its close proximity to our main ground should greatly support youth development.

Governance & Committee Updates

We held a successful AGM in December, and many new committee members are settling well into their roles. I wish them every success.
Amit Wagh unfortunately had to step down as Fixture Secretary due to personal commitments; we thank him sincerely for his excellent service over the past three years. Sanjeeb Gupta has kindly stepped in to manage fixtures for this summer.

Facilities & Infrastructure Improvements

Several improvement projects were completed over the winter. Our pavilion upgrades are now complete, with new steps and a refreshed look—made possible through county grant funding, for which we are very grateful.
We have also begun fencing the far end of Ground 1 to prevent pitch damage and reduce the loss of balls into the stream. Nitesh has managed this project very efficiently.
One of our key focus areas for the coming year is building changing rooms at Ground 3. Nadeem has taken the lead in applying for grants. If any members are aware of sponsorship opportunities or funding sources, please do get in touch—this is vital to ensure we can continue playing senior cricket at Ground 3 beyond 2027.
Our veterans, Jon and Martin, have once again gone above and beyond. Jon has painted all the changing rooms, and Martin has replaced and labelled all locks. It is our collective responsibility to respect their efforts by keeping our facilities clean and tidy.
Kric Events have made significant investments to improve our clubhouse over the winter, and we thank them for their continued support.

Grounds & Preparation

Our grounds are looking excellent thanks to Max and Jon, who have ensured the square and outfield are well maintained. Ground 1 was reseeded over the winter, and we hope this will significantly improve the outfield. Please avoid using the Ground 1 outfield for outdoor practice, as it has already seen heavy usage.
It was great to see many members turn up for the pre season work party, helping us prepare effectively for the season ahead. Our nets are now secure and ready.

Overseas Players

Our overseas players, Saad Khan and Amrita Joseph, will be arriving shortly, and we wish them both a very successful season at Slough CC.

As I always say, we should all be proud to be members of Slough Cricket Club and custodians of some of the best facilities in England. It is our shared responsibility to protect, improve, and pass them on safely to the next generation. If you see anyone misusing facilities or littering, please intervene or inform a committee member.
I wish everyone tremendous success for the 2026 season. Play hard, play fair, and—most importantly—ensure that our behaviour on and off the field reflects the values and spirit of our great club.
