2. Selection Policy


At Slough CC, we are dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for young cricketers to excel and grow in their passion for the sport. Our youth cricket selection policy is designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and the holistic development of aspiring players. Below are the key aspects of our policy:

The selection committee will consider the following criteria when evaluating players:

  • Performance: A player's performance in League games, Knock-out game, Internal game and practice sessions will be a key factor in selection.
  • Skills: Batting, bowling, fielding, and overall cricketing skills will be assessed.
  • Attendance and Availability: Players need to attend training sessions as well as matches.
  • Attitude: A positive attitude, commitment, disciplined and sportsmanship are crucial.
  • Potential: The selectors will consider a player's potential for growth and development to play for higher standard ( County, Open age and national side ).
  • Team Balance: The selection committee will strive to create a balanced team with diverse skills

Required Criteria for Selection

  • The player must be registered with the club and have active accounts on both Pitchero and Play Cricket.
  • Players will be allocated to a specific teams according to their age and skill level.
  • Player availability must be accurately updated in the Pitchero App.

Approach of selection
Our colts engage in a variety of match types, which can be broadly categorized into three groups:

  • Performance: These games aim for a high level of competitiveness, and players are chosen based on their skills and performance.
  • Developmentt: These matches serve as a training ground for less experienced players, providing them with chances to improve their skills and gain experience.
  • Friendlies: These are less formal games where the emphasis is on enjoyment and sportsmanship. The team composition might be adjusted during the match to ensure a good experience for all players involved.

We kindly ask that you extend your understanding and respect to the Manager/Coach, as their role is both challenging and crucial for the development of all children on the team. Should you have any concerns, we encourage you to address them in a courteous manner. This collaborative approach will help find solutions that best serve your child's cricket development. To minimize disruptions during training or matches, it's recommended to schedule an appointment with the Manager/Coach in advance.
